Brooklyn-based startup Blue Apron, a weekly subscription service that delivers everything you need to make fresh meals, has recently closed a Series A round, First Round Capital’s Phin Barnes announced on his blog. Blue Apron provides subscribers with regular shipments of ingredients to prepare complete home cooked meals, including the recipes.
The company, which launched less than a year ago, has already gained considerable traction in the market and is shipping about 6000 meals per week at $9.99 per person for each meal. They plan on using the funds to expand the service, eventually throughout the US.
The $3 million dollar round includes investments from Bessemer Venture Partners, David Tisch of Box Group, Jason Finger of Seamless, Jim Moran of Yipit., and a number of individual angel and strategic investors. The amount includes a previous initial raise of $800,000.
Matt Salzberg, the company’s co-founder and CEO, was formerly a venture capitalist at Bessemer.
‘Blue Apron’ refers an age-old French tradition for young chefs to wear a Blue Apron while they master the art of cooking.
Congratulations to Matt and his team.
