Each week we bring you a handy guide to just a few of the events we think should not be missed. On any given night, there are too many events. You can’t attend all of them and neither should you, unless you’re a career socialite. For the week of April 1-7, let us help you navigate the scene:
- Connolly’s Pub and Restaurant: 121 W 45th Street
- $5 online/ $10 at the door
Startup Pitch Night brings you an evening of fast-paced pitching. Attendees have the opportunity to sign up for a 60 second pitching slot where they give their name and background, the problem that their product is trying to solve, what the product is, and who they need on their team. The night ends with an anonymous audience vote for best pitch. Our advice, no thoughtful pauses.
- Dechert LLP: 1095 6th Avenue
A panel chaired by Vivian Maese, Dechert LLP, with Rishi Nangalia, Goldman Sachs; Dmitri Galinov, FastMatch, Inc; Jessica Taylor, Morgan Stanley; Bina Kalola, Bank of America; Jose Marques, Deutche Bank; Jason Kunreuther, Barclays.
- Alley NYC: 500 7th Avenue
One of the most common pieces of advice we hear from startup mentors at AlleyWatch is that you should never underestimate the value of understanding the tech that your company relies on. Whether you are outsourcing your development or keeping it internal, come to this event to get some tips on thinking like a CTO from Zack Rosenberg, CEO of DoGoodBuyUs.com; Ariele Krantzow, Training and Support Manager of Wix & Designer; and Justin Mound, Systems Architect & Entrepreneur. Topics to be covered include: how to create wireframes, use cases, user stories and using tools like github and twitter bootstrap.
- 44th West 4th Street
- Free for entrepreneurs actively working on a startup, $25 for service providers
Five startups will pitch to a crowd of entrepreneurs, investors, and venture capitalists to receive feedback. Speaker at this event will be Brad Burnham of Union Square Ventures.
