What you missed around the web and on AlleyWatch last week – April 7 – April 13

It was another busy week in Silicon Alley and beyond.

Foursquare launched a new version of its mobile app and also announced an additional $41 million in funding. Rumor has it that the company raised this round on a $600 million valuation despite only reportedly producing $2 million a year in revenue. On a related note, Tumblr axed its editorial staff to focus more on bottom-line related initiatives.

The world was deeply saddened to learn the news of Allen Stern’s death. His work put the foundation for something like AlleyWatch to exist.  Will New York City get Mayor Weiner this fall? Let’s the jokes begin now.  We’ll start by asking, “does Weiner lean to the left or the right?”

AppNexus, hot off its recent $75 million dollar funding, renewed and expanded its lease in Chelsea for a combined total of 220,000 sq. feet.  The office was already enormous and I can only imagine what the additional space – an additional 130,000 sq. feet will look like. Warby Parker opened its first retail physical store in Soho on Saturday.

Overheard in the Alley:

“LinkedIn is porn for business development professionals”
