Today, we speak with Yaron Samid, Co-Founder and CEO of BillGuard, a free personal finance security service that uses crowdsourced big-data analytics to identify deceptive, erroneous and unauthorized charges to your credit or debit card bills.
What does “Made in NYTM” mean to you and your company?
NY has always been “the Great American Melting Pot.” It has a long, rich history of enabling entrepreneurs to make their dreams become a reality and businesses to flourish and grow. For BillGuard, NY was a logical choice, given that it is home to the world’s largest financial institutions and most dynamic technology innovators.
What can be done to maximize the “Made in NYTM” campaign?
Entrepreneurs, by nature, are builders. I think it is vital to the success of the “Made in NYTM” campaign that the city encourages founders to get out there and promote the movement and to highlight the technologies being developed in our city. There is a big misconception that innovation only comes from Silicon Valley. We must rally together to show that the Alley is a major innovation hub.
What else can be done to promote early stage entrepreneurship in NYC?
We need to really tout the many NY-based success stories, as well as find additional incentives for entrepreneurs who base their businesses in NY. “Made in NYTM” should also consider a mentor program where more established entrepreneurs can help others get their businesses off the ground.
Where does your company fit in the ecosystem?
BillGuard has headquartered its marketing, sales and business development in NYC. It was the logical choice for us, given that the BillGuard service merges technology with finance to give consumers the first tool to help them save money by identifying grey charges and resolving billing disputes. We are proud to be in a city that is home to the world’s largest financial institutions and most dynamic technology innovators.
