What does “Made in NY™” mean to you and your company?

Made in NY™ is composed of some of the best and brightest tech companies and Tapad is honored to be included within this group.  We are constantly inspired by the ambitious, creative minds around us in New York.  In fact, Tapad would not be where it is today without the support and close-knit culture of the New York tech community.   Our incredible team of homegrown engineers built our breakthrough, cross-screen advertising technology right here in our office — and they continue to innovate every day. The fact that we’re credited with leading a transformation in the way the advertising industry works has much to do with being located in NYC.

What can be done to maximize the “Made in NY™” campaign?

Made in NY™ is one of the most diverse communities around, but I wonder how everyone ended up here. All startups have different origin stories and we’d love to hear how our peers survived the infant stages and growing pains of starting a company in the concrete jungle.  The campaign could showcase each company’s momentous decisions, biggest mistakes, life lessons and what they would have done differently if they had to start over.

What else can be done to promote early stage entrepreneurship in NYC?

Entrepreneurship is not often reinforced or taught heavily in college but it is more than a viable career choice for recent grads.  Free info sessions and on-campus outreach about the NY tech community would certainly drive interest with new students in the job market.  These students need to understand that starting a new company is no easy feat, but with more entrepreneurial resources readily available they can be prepared for the inevitable challenges they will face.

Where does your company fit in the ecosystem?

Tapad is an ad technology firm founded in NYC in 2010.  We are best known for innovating the first cross-device advertising technology.  This means that for the first time, through Tapad, brands can deliver targeted, unified ads to their target audience across all screens.

Some key metrics:

  • We’ve recently closed our second round of funding and our investors include the “who’s who” of online ad tech in the last decade.
  • Our client list now includes more than 100 Fortune 500 brands.
  • We currently have more than 60 employees (and still hiring!).
  • We’ve grown from a windowless closet in midtown to a (nearly) full-floor loft space in Chelsea.  In the last 12 months, we’ve also opened offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, LA, Miami and San Francisco.
