Today we speak with Julie Anne Quay, Founder and CEO of VFILES, an online fashion site where people come together to watch, shop and create.
What does “Made in NYTM” mean to you and your company?
It was so exciting to hear that Made in NY knew we existed! The words fashion and tech usually do not go hand in hand, so we were really thrilled to be recognized and hope that we can do NYC proud!
What can be done to maximize the “Made in NYTM” campaign?
I think perhaps getting everyone together physically would be a good start – NYC is about people, and we at VFiles have been successful in bringing the offline and online worlds together – it only makes both divisions stronger. I know we would enjoy a personal connection with other NYC startups who are going through similar challenges that we are that are specifically NYC-related.
What else can be done to promote early stage entrepreneurship in NYC?
In short – AWARENESS . NYC startups have to take such incredible risks in order to get their businesses going, and for some reason, we are still the “weird relative” of Silicon Valley. This makes no sense, because the world hub of fashion and finance is NYC and so in these areas, anyone not based in NYC is kind of doing a “landgrab” of our community.
Where does your company fit in the ecosystem?
VFILES is doing something very different in the online fashion space. We have content-driven e-commerce, with a full social ecosystem that supports it. VFiles is a destination where people come together to watch, shop and create. We make our own content, source our own product and drive our own social media. Having said that, we are willing partners in the internet ecosystem and love partnering with like-minded companies who value sharing, great technology, great product and of course, amazing content.
