Source3 is the platform for large-scale licensing and distribution of 3D content.
How is it different?
We are working on developing a pipeline that will allow brands at scale to deliver premium 3D content for 3D printing, AR/VR and also for the potential to allow designers creative derivative rights of their products.
What market are you attacking and how big is it?
We are focusing on a number of verticals currently to better understand the needs of the brands and other business partners. This is a large field today, which we will continue to develop as the 3D market and the strength of our product offerings grow.
What is the business model?
Our first goal is to make brands more comfortable and familiar with the idea of providing 3D content to marketplaces and designers. While building that out, we’ll be developing the platform components that will help bring designers and fulfillment partners together to help make it a reality.
What inspired the business?
Many of us come from music industry backgrounds and truly believe a Napster like event will occur in the 3D space in the near future. We found a great opportunity in combining licensing knowledge with 3D expertise to take a calculated shot at that vision.
You recently raised a round. Tell us about it.
We recently closed on a $4 million dollar preferred seed round. We’re extremely excited about our partners and in particular the strategic investment with Autodesk who is a major player in the space.
Your founding team has an ex-Googler – how has that helped?
We have a few ex-Googlers, actually. They bring a wealth of knowledge in the licensing space from selling their company RightsFlow to Google in 2011. That knowledge of how to grow a company in the licensing space, and then to scale it to become valuable to someone like Google has been a tremendous help in our first year as a company.
What are the milestones that you plan to achieve within six months?
We want to bring more brands to market, create new opportunities in the ecosystem for 3D content to be consumed and deliver a platform that will help support all of this at scale as the space grows.
If you could be put in touch with one investor in the New York community who would it be and why?
Why did you launch in New York?
Many of us were based there from our days at Google and before that. Our CEO, Patrick Sullivan, has become a well known member of the entrepreneur space which was important to help us get things moving in the beginning. Having that kind of support and network in our early stages was crucial to developing our funding roadmap/strategy.
Where is your favorite place to visit in the area in the fall?
I think we as a team might be torn between Central Park and Union Square. Both have great things going for them, and are fun places to be during the fall months.
