What does “Made in NY™” mean to you and your company?
Like all New Yorkers, the founders of Audiomack pride ourselves on where we live, work and breathe. It’s also important for a site that distributes great hip-hop music to identify with the essence of the city where the music genre was actually spawned — New York City and the Boogie Down Bronx. It’s critical for an online-based business like Audiomack to still be able network offline with the artists, bloggers and media companies that use our site to distribute their music. It’s not a coincidence that the best music creators also call NY the home of their art and business!
What can be done to maximize the “Made in NY™” campaign?
Entrepreneurs are so inundated with driving the growth of their business that they can often neglect the resources available to them. I think the city has done a great job conveying the advantages of starting up in NYC through different conduits of media, but the best way to spread the gospel is through face-to-face contact and word of mouth. If other “Made in NY™” companies inform each other of the campaign, it will resonate more throughout the community and provide ideal coverage of the possible benefits.
What else can be done to promote early stage entrepreneurship in NYC?
In short, highlighting recent success stories. The best motivational tool for entrepreneurs is seeing their neighbor achieve relative success! But, basic guidance on how to mechanically complete the basic necessities required to launch a business couldn’t hurt, along with resources on how to do that in the most effective and cost efficient manner. They can learn if an LLC or S-Corp is best, where to hire the right talent, what type of capital is required, pitfalls to avoid, etc.
Where does your company fit in the ecosystem?
Audiomack is a website that allows artists, labels and bloggers distribute music while enabling listeners to easily consume new music that appeals to them. Most people who are even tangentially related to the music industry in NY can benefit from using Audiomack. Whether it’s a new artist from Flushing looking for a platform to distribute a new song, an indie label based in Bushwick looking to manage all of their artists/bands promotional music under one roof, a SoHo editorial music site looking for a site where they can upload and host songs/albums they editorialize, a Madison Avenue media buyer searching for a hip, urban audience or just a fellow tech startup employee looking to easily discover new hip hop to listen to while they code, Audiomack can help!
