Zocdoc, the New York-based healthcare booking marketplace, has acquired Sohar Health, a New York startup that automates insurance eligibility checks, in the first acquisition in Zocdoc’s history. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.“As we build the healthcare access infrastructure that powers care everywhere patients search, we are investing deeply in making the experience of finding and booking care more seamless for more patients at scale,” remarked Oliver Kharraz, MD, Founder and CEO of Zocdoc. “We know the Sohar technology and team well, and we share a desire to tackle complex, systemic problems to remove the barriers that stand between patients and their care. We are confident that bringing Sohar’s platform and expertise into Zocdoc will make insurance easier to navigate for patients and their providers when it matters most: at the moment of booking.”

Founded in 2023 by Ashish Mandavia, MD and Lucas Gordon, Sohar Health had raised $3.8M in seed funding and is backed by Kindred Capital, Concept Ventures, Rebel Fund, and Y Combinator, where it went through the Summer 2023 batch. Sohar sells APIs that find a patient’s active coverage from basic details like a name and date of birth, then verify benefits, confirm whether a provider is in-network, and estimate costs. The platform covers more than 1000 payers across the U.S. and counts BetterHelp, Headway, Rula, and Talkiatry among its customers.
The two companies were already working together. Zocdoc picked Sohar as its insurance technology partner in 2025 after evaluating other options, and millions of Zocdoc patients have since verified their coverage through Sohar’s technology. “As a physician, it has always baffled me that at the moment people need care most, they have to face a gauntlet just to understand whether their insurance will cover it,” remarked Ashish Mandavia, MD, Cofounder and CEO of Sohar Health. “Whether someone is navigating a health crisis or booking routine appointments, they should be able to access care without unnecessary friction. We built Sohar to help create that experience, and we can now bring it to millions more patients with Zocdoc.”
