Handy, the mobile Yellow Pages for handymen, has raised a Series C round of $50M. Investors include, Fidelity Investments, Revolution Growth, Highland Capital Partners, General Catalyst Partners and TPG Ventures.

The SPOT Experience, the pet care provider, has raised an undisclosed amount from Drayton Park Capital. For CEO and founder, Mitch Marrow, this is the first funding received by the company.

Columbia University has announced that Steve Blank is the new Senior Fellow for Entrepreneurship. The 8 time serial entrepreneur will be an invaluable resource for students and faculty looking for innovative and entrepreneurial advice.

Body Labs, using technology to test products on digital humans, has raised $8M in a Series A round led by Intel Capital with help from Catalus Capital, Osage University Partners, Max Planck Innovation and FirstMark Capital.

It looks like NYC’s newest tech hub may be coming to Union Square.  The EDC has put our an RFP for development of 124 E. 14th Street, which is currently occupied by appliance retailer PC Richard.  The space request is looking for new office space for creative business including technology companies. It also mentions that portion of the area can be considered for residential use. Proposals are due by February of 2016.

LeafLink, managing the cannabis industry, has raised a Seed round of $750K. This is first round of funding for cofounders Ryan Smith and Zach Silverman.

 


Congratulations to Greycroft founder Alan Patricof on being inducted to the Crain’s Hall of Fame for 2015.  Mr. Patricof is one of the early pioneers of Silicon Alley and without his immense contributions both in private equity and venture capital, New York would not be the fertile ground for entrepreneurship it is today.

Genius, the online knowledge project, has raised an undisclosed amount from the rapper Marshall Mathers more commonly known as Eminem.

BrightFarms, the operators of hydroponic greenhouse farms has raised $2.4M in a Series B round of funding led by WP Global Partners, with support from NGEN Partners, Emil Capital Partners and Ted Caplow.
