Rokt, the e-commerce technology company specializing in real-time relevancy, has acquired mParticle, a leading customer data platform (CDP) provider, in a $300M transaction “Our mission at mParticle has always been to simplify the complexity of customer data management and empower multi-channel brands to create meaningful connections with their customers across any screen,” remarked Michael Katz, CEO of mParticle. “Bringing mParticle and Rokt’s capabilities together will offer the best of both worlds – a new class of solutions where customers can activate their data in real-time to immediately impact business outcomes while maintaining complete ownership and control over their customer data assets.”

Founded in 2013 by Katz, Dave Myers, and Andrew Katz, mParticle has raised a total of $267.3M in total reported equity funding and is backed by investors that include FJ Labs, Google Ventures, Greylock, Battery Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, Social Capital, Correlation Ventures, Eniac Ventures, 10X Capital, Golden Ventures, Harmony Partners, Bowery Capital, TriplePoint Ventures, and Permira. As part of the acquisition, mParticle’s leadership team will remain intact and take on expanded roles. Michael Katz will continue as CEO of mParticle, Andrew Katz will become Chief Technology Officer of Rokt, and Jason Lynn will remain as Chief Product Officer of mParticle. All three founders will join Rokt’s executive team.

The acquisition comes during a period of significant growth for Rokt, which reported a 40% year-over-year revenue increase to $600M. “Across billions of e-commerce transactions, we have seen joint clients achieve much better consumer and business outcomes when using mParticle – up to 50% better,” remarked Bruce Buchanan, CEO and cofounder of Rokt. “This merger will enable us to bring a significant performance lift to all of our clients. We are thrilled to join forces with the mParticle team to accelerate bringing our vision to life, enabling everyone to unlock the moments that matter most.”
