We spend about a third of our entire life sleeping. Sleep is the most important and effective way to rest because our brain processes information, rejuvenates, and allows us to grow both physically and mentally. Nothing can have such a negative lasting impact to our health like sleeping poorly, so it’s a shame when modern studies show that a big percent of today’s population either has poo sleeping habits.
In today’s culture, being overworked is a regular state of affairs that has a significant effect on our daily lives, and instead of learning how to cool things down and rest, we continue trudging forward with life only to increase that feeling of fatigue and exhaustion. It’s no longer socially acceptable to not work or to have a casual outlook on life – we need to show we’re a productive member of society and that we can achieve and accomplish any task we set out to. The truth is that kind of attitude is strenuous at best and downright unhealthy at worst. When paired with the desire for a social or love life, that attitude can breed sleeping habits that do more harm than good on our minds and bodies.
Man is a social beast; we want to be surrounded by people we care about, and to do all kinds of activities with them. But that takes time. Time that the modern person can rarely afford if they wish to fulfill every task and chore that life throws at them, and the first sacrifice to be able to afford more time is sleep. We cut down on sleep to be able to have more time to do more chores, and because we have more chores we have less time to rest. It’s vicious cycle that needs to stop.
It might seem difficult – impossible even – to relax in the modern world. Many experts agree that having a good night’s rest is one of best ways to remain healthy, but the first step is introducing healthy sleeping habits. It’s also important to remember that work will always be there and no amount of rushing to get it done will change anything about that.
Next step is maintaining that biorhythm. Social calls are important, but your health is even more so. If feeling tired stay at home and rest, because all it takes is one tiny slip, and before you know it, your sleep patterns can change in disrupt again, leaving you in a state of fatigue and tiredness all over again.
As much as we want to achieve our goals, we have to remember that tomorrow is a brand new day, and the best way to get there is by having a decent good night’s sleep. Work, friends, and the world will still be there after you wake up, and you’ll thank yourself for sleeping at the correct time, because the next day will be fresh and you will be fresh with energy to grab it.
