Demo Day for the New York Digital Health Accelerator’s Class #2 is this Thursday, and if there’s any doubt in your mind as to the effectiveness of the accelerator program, here are a few facts for you:

  • The inaugural class of eight companies that graduated in May 2013 raised approximately $25 million in aggregate, after completing the program.
  • Two of the companies were acquired within six months of graduating.
  • Participating healthcare providers facilitated 17 pilots at their organizations – and created over 120 jobs.
  • NYDHA was ranked the #1 Health IT Accelerator by the Rotman School of Business, based on 21 other programs worldwide

And that was just for starters. Meet the 2nd Class of startups who just finished the intensive five-month program, and here’s just a preview of what to expect come Demo Day (spoiler – 14 pilot programs are on tracked to be launched momentarily):

AllazoHealth

Medication adherence programs aren’t one size fits all, since all patients are different, and are prescribed medications for different ailments, and for different reasons.

solves the problem of medication non-adherence for ACOs, hospital systems, payers, and PBMs, by using predictive analytics to identify high risk patients likely to miss a medication fill and predict which interventions will best influence individual patient behavior.

Clinigence

provides transformational clinical business intelligence tools to help providers transition from the traditional payment model – where they were compensated based solely on the volume of patients they saw – to the emerging model where they are paid based on the quality of patient care and their ability to control costs. Clinigence does this by allowing providers to easily capture data from their medical charts in real-time, and combine them it with data from other providers, as well as claims data from health insurers, to get a comprehensive picture of their patients’ health statuses and outcomes.

Covertix

empowers healthcare organizations to protect and control confidential data shared between patients, healthcare professionals, hospital networks and third party vendors – and it works seamlessly with any preferred file storage platform or cloud provider

Covertix is the only company that offers complete control and protection of confidential files when shared with internal /external parties, without affecting business continuity or the end user’s behavior.

iQuartic

develops cloud platforms to network and data mine EHR (electronic health records) and other data for the healthcare industry. The technology systematically mines and structures EHRs, making the platform ideal for generating high-end EHR analytics for risk profiling, disease management, and quality benchmarking. The solutions are also compliant with regulatory and industry standards.

Noom

develops mobile software that helps people live healthier, like the Noom Weight Loss Coach, which happens to be the #1 mobile app on Android.

The big news that the company will be announcing (and going into the details): the launch of a new version of the popular app, with New York-Presbyterian Hospital at their Washington Heights clinic. The clinic focuses on the local Spanish-speaking community, and the pilot is uniquely designed to get the local pre-diabetic population to stay motivated to lose weight and help improve their health.

Quality Reviews

builds proprietary software to help healthcare provider organizations capture and analyze real-time patient feedback via its flagship product, ®.

About time someone gave patients a voice – and in real time, no less!

The big news : Quality Reviews’ RateMyHospital app will be deployed across the Central New York Health Home Network, allowing incoming patients to rate their hospital experiences in real-time, and giving the Network the chance to assess opportunities for improvement and deliver better quality care.

Gotta love that !

Sense Health

Sense Health offers a mobile care management platform that engages patients through interactive care plans, unlocking the potential of text message health support that allows health professionals to quickly generate and customize text messages, based care plans for their patients.

In other words, it’s quick, easy two-way communications, and communications can often be the best medicine.

The big news:  Sense Health – which also sends confidence-boosting texts from care providers to high-risk Medicaid patients – will be expanding their services to Hudson River Health Care’s HIV and AIDS program, where they’ll use motivational messages to engage and motivate patients living with HIV to stick to their long-term treatment plans.
